In this page, I explain to you how to install Solaris8(X86) via serial console. As you know, you can install solaris on the Sparcstation via serial console, if keyboard and display are not attached to it. But you can install Solaris8(X86) on your machine via serial console, too! So let's get start it.
1. get your machine to boot from diskette in the solaris package or
you create and run the installer.
NOTE: You have to unlock write protect.
2. After the drive stop reading,
press F2 via console(not serial console).
3. The drive restart reading again.
After 20 minutes later or so,
the drive stop again.
Then press F4.
Use the the down arrow key to move to the bottom of menu.
As you can here beep, You can notice you are in the bottom of menu.
5. Press enter key.
6. Press F2.
Now you are in the menu where you can set up the console environment.
7. Press the down arrow key once.
Now you are selecting com1.
If press the down arrow key twice,
you can select com2.
8. Enter key.
9. Enter F2.
Now you can here or see the message from installer via serial console and control and continue to install it via serial console. Good luck!
